Description: A video game designer creates the landscape and environment for each video game. They design each specific level of the game, including backgrounds and characters.
Knowledge Required: Video game designers must be proficient in geometry and have a knowledge of basic science.
Skills: Computer skills, artistic and graphic design skills are essential. Experience playing video games is also very helpful.
Career Path: Most video game designers have bachelor's degrees in English, art, computer science, or related areas. In addition, many colleges offer video game specific degrees (such as ITT Tech, DeVry or The Art Institute). Most designers start as testers, getting their foot in the door of the company before they move up to designer.
