At the beginning of the summer, ConnectEd Studios put out a call for the best student projects to be submitted to the ConnectEd Studios Student Gallery. We received over 60 submissions from 10 Linked Learning pathways. After careful consideration by our panel of judges, including Linked Learning and industry professionals, three winners have been selected:
First Prize Austyn M. for the submission entitled Land Rings, a photo in which "the full moon gave the sky a subtle glow while a link of cars left a glowing trail." |
About Austyn: My name is Austyn and I am a class of 2014 graduate from Cathedral City High School, California. I've been in the photography scene for quite a few years now. I started fiddling with cameras back in in my first year of middle school, three years later, my freshman year in high school. It started getting very serious thanks to the Digital Arts Technology Academy. The photo I submitted, "Land Rings" was created by using the technique of slow shutter speed mixed with the quick and bright movement caused by passing vehicles. I had been practicing the technique for some time and then I came across this competition and knew that if I was able to perfect that skill I'd have a good shot at being recognized. The setting for this photo came to mind when I was in my photography class learning about Astrophotography. I wanted to duplicate the look of a planet as best as possible, hence the name of the photo. For the past four years DATA opened the doors and gave me the tools needed to get an early jump on my career in the photography industry. I've shot everything from automotive to weddings, architecture, interior design, portraits, cityscapes, photo booths, sports, commercial, and musical events all thanks to the help provided by the Academy and my photo instructor, Matt Cauthron. Being that I'm well on my way to college, I am now able to use everything I've learned and put it to use towards my career. I'm now interning with a photographer out of Los Angeles that specializes in the model and clothing design industry. With my ultimate goal still being a little unclear, I know I am definitely bound in the right direction of my dream career and taking on every challenge and opportunity that comes my way. |
